Voices from the Palestinian refugee camps: Report from a CTIP event

School children in a UN refugee camp in Jordan. This “temporary” camp has been an uncomfortable “home” to over 20,000 Palestinians for nearly 70 years. The voices of the over 5 million Palestinian refugees are rarely heard. Last September Canada Talks Israel Palestine (CTIP) organized a special interactive session to allow Canadians to hear directly from, and interact with, 3 Palestinian refugees. Young Palestinian politician in Israeli Knesset to outline “vision for hope” in Ottawa on Oct. 18th

Dr. Yousef Jabareen MK, member of the Israeli Knesset, is one of the new generation of Palestinian leaders.  A Palestinian citizen of Israel, 44 year old Jabareen will be in Ottawa for a week of meetings with Canadian officials, NGOs and other civil society organizations. At his only public event, on Tuesday, October 18th, he will present his “Vision for hope” in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Canadian women preparing new attempt to enter Gaza by boat

In 2010, Israeli forces stormed the Mavi Marmara which was trying to bring needed medical supplies to blockaded Gaza. Nine people were killed (a tenth died later) and dozens were wounded. The boat was seized. But Israel got a lot of bad publicity. This September, another boat with a female crew and passenger complement, will try again. Read more.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) provides life-saving food, education and medical services to over 5 million Palestinian refugees, including these ones in Syria. The Harper government reduced to zero the Canadian financial contribution.  The Trudeau government is hesitating about restoring funding. Read more

Is Gaza finished?: Personal impressions from a short visit

The three punishing Israeli attacks on Gaza (2009, 2011, 2014) have had a serious impact on Gaza and its children. Hundreds killed, thousands more injured, whole neighbourhoods demolished, and tens of thousands suffering from the post-traumatic stress of seeing death and destruction around them.
