Rachel Corrie’s parents to speak in Abbotsford, B.C. at Palestinian solidarity day, Nov 26th.

Cindy and Craig Corrie, whose daughter Rachel was killed in Gaza by an Israeli bulldozer in 2003 will be in Abbotsford, B.C. on Saturday, November 26th. Dr. Yousef Jabareen focuses on the Palestinian struggle for human rights inside Israel

“Israel is infringing the human rights of over 11 million Palestinians”, Dr. Yousef Jabareen told nearly 200 people who came to hear him in Ottawa on October 18th. These include about 1.5 million Palestinians who live inside today’s Israel. Jabareen, who was elected to the Israeli Knesset in 2015, is one of them. He has a Ph.D. in law. Young Palestinian politician in Israeli Knesset to outline “vision for hope” in Ottawa on Oct. 18th

Dr. Yousef Jabareen MK, member of the Israeli Knesset, is one of the new generation of Palestinian leaders.  A Palestinian citizen of Israel, 44 year old Jabareen will be in Ottawa for a week of meetings with Canadian officials, NGOs and other civil society organizations. At his only public event, on Tuesday, October 18th, he will present his “Vision for hope” in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. “Should Canada support BDS?” There is growing debate in Canada over the international movement to  boycott Israel, known as BDS.  In March, the federal government adopted a motion “denouncing” BDS. But a resolution in the same direction failed in the Ontario legislature in May. Open letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne about her proposed motion to protect Israel against a boycott

On returning to Toronto from her visit to Israel last month, Ontario Premier Wynne promised that she would work on a motion to oppose the movement to boycott Israel called BDS. I appeal to her to do some public consultation before preparing the legislation. It might change her mind. Read more.

Original Nakba survivors to visit Eastern Canadian cities

In a decade or so, the voices of the original Nakba survivors will be extinct. But 86 year old Mariam Fatallah remembers clearly being expelled from her village in 1948. She wants to be sure that others know what happened to her and hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees.  She is making a tour of the USA and Canada to share her memories of expulsion and of living as a refugee in Lebanon. Dion dithers on restoring support to Palestinian refugees

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) provides life-saving food, education and medical services to over 5 million Palestinian refugees, including these ones in Syria. The Harper government reduced to zero the Canadian financial contribution.  The Trudeau government is hesitating about restoring funding. Read more

The debate on BDS has now begun – thanks to Tony Clement

Former Tory minister Tony Clement probably calculated that a unanimous condemnation by Canadian Parliament would deliver a knock out blow to the BDS movement in Canada (or at least scare it into submission.)  But he didn’t get an unanimous vote.
