Voices from the Palestinian refugee camps: Report from a CTIP event

School children in a UN refugee camp in Jordan. This “temporary” camp has been an uncomfortable “home” to over 20,000 Palestinians for nearly 70 years. The voices of the over 5 million Palestinian refugees are rarely heard. Last September Canada Talks Israel Palestine (CTIP) organized a special interactive session to allow Canadians to hear directly from, and interact with, 3 Palestinian refugees. Dr. Yousef Jabareen focuses on the Palestinian struggle for human rights inside Israel

“Israel is infringing the human rights of over 11 million Palestinians”, Dr. Yousef Jabareen told nearly 200 people who came to hear him in Ottawa on October 18th. These include about 1.5 million Palestinians who live inside today’s Israel. Jabareen, who was elected to the Israeli Knesset in 2015, is one of them. He has a Ph.D. in law. “My name is refugee”: – a book review

Thaer El Rifai, M.D. is a Canadian medical doctor practicing family medicine in Ottawa. Born in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, he is one of the lucky refugees to survive and get out.
